U.S. Women Destroy Team Switzerland

Team U.S.A. dominated Team Switzerland today with a final score of 9-0 although the game was really done halfway through the first period when Team U.S.A. was up by five goals.  What more can you say?

Next up…Team Canada on Wednesday!

A Few Observations...

I had the chance to watch the game between Team Russia and Team Germany in Women's Hockey on Sunday.  Good game overall…Germany held a 1-0 lead until early in the third period and then the Russians really turned it on with four unanswered goals.  Germany will face Sweden on February 11 and Russia faces Japan, also on February 11.

One interesting stat that came out of the game was the number of registered female hockey players in Russia compared with some of the other nations fielding women's hockey teams.  According to the NBC-SN announcers Mike Emrick and A.J. Mleczko Russia only has 562 registered female ice hockey players.  This compares with Germany at 3,000, the United States at 65,000 and Canada at 87,000.  What is even more surprising is the fact that hockey is a huge sport in Russia!

Olympics Begin!

Every four years the Hat Trick gets pretty excited…and for a very special reason.  No, it's not a Presidential Election year but the Winter Olympics!  The Hat Trick is a huge fan of the skiing, bobsledding, ski jump and, of course, the hockey!

While the Hat Trick makes time for the Men's Hockey, one of my bigger passions is watching the U.S. Women's team.  Women's hockey has a different feel, less physical in most cases…unless the U.S. Women are playing Team Canada!  Team U.S.A. looks poised to go deep in the medal round during the Sochi games and I find myself ready to watch.  Unfortunately the Hat Trick missed the first game against Finland (a 3 - 1 victory for Team U.S.A.) due to some time change confusion but have the rest of the games scheduled on my DVR and we are ready to go!

Go Team U.S.A.!!!!!
